Cool inside, Monte Charola owners have allowed for simple rustic portuguese charm
coupled with modern conveniences. Tiled full bathroom with wide window, and
bathroom with shower, hot water, heating appliances, open cooking/living/dining area of house has a woodstove for winter heating. Many windows open in all directions to the open woodland, the outline of the Serra do Caldeirao, and our own mature olive grove.
Walk to the old windmills, down to the River Mira, exploring kilometers of dirt roads where ruins of uninhabited rural homes remind us this was the rural heartland of Portugal, now sparsely peopled

Description of the area:

Choose either stay the night and occupy the room and shared living space and eat out
in nearby hamlets or towns (Ourique, Almodovar, Santana da Serra) or order home cooked meals with plenty of fresh produce from our organic vegetable garden. Room rate includes breakfast. You are welcomed to use kitchen for preparing snacks and tea or coffee. Olive oil based products (oil, soaps) and honey sold in souvenir corner.
The Southern end of Alentejo region, an area of cork oak and kermes oak, home of the famed Black Pig and pastured flocks of sheep, goats and some cattle. Nearby good birdwatching(plain and sierra )
Nearby possibility of exploring archeological circuits (Neolithic to Arab), day trips to beaches ( Algarve and Atlantic), and some family owned horse stables offer riding tours.

From A2 highway roundabout turn for" Gomes Aires". In front of "Cafe Martelo" turn left for" Santana da Serra ", go straight, take a right at sign for "Monte das Figueiras". Continue on dirt road, follow signs for " Antas." Go past ruined windmill , ours is whitewalled house with blue windows on right hand corner .
