Detailed description:

The small village Dirkshorn, a cosy and friendly place in the old Dutch building style, is situated approx. 15 km North of Alkmaar and only about 3 km South of Schagen. The small idyllic harbour in the centre of the village is ideal to leisure around on the waterfront in a “never a dull moment” frame of mind. There is also a big surfing / fishing lake adjoining the harbour as well as a canoe pond, a public heated swimming pool, tennis courts, a riding farm nearby and plenty of great waterways for fishing to be explored by canoe or boat (canoe/boat rental in the village). A bicycle tour from Dirkshorn through the beautiful Polder scenery allows you to visit the old historic villages on the dykes. Hikers can enjoy their favourite leisure activity, for example strolling through the dunes or along the beaches.

There is a modern supermarket at the entrance to the park.

There are old canals and dykes everywhere. Tulips and daffodils bloom in Spring. The widely spread Polders and vegetable fields are ideal for cycling and for hiking. Dunes, heaths, woods, lakes and beaches (8 km) are close by. To the West, the North sea is full of attractive places: Schoorl, Bergen and in the East the Ijssel sea with Hoorn, Enkhuizen and Volendam. Schagen und Alkmaar always have something attractive to offer. Leisure activities: fishing, boat trips, leisure park, golf, indoor playhouse, canoe riding, minigolf, cycling, riding, swimming, sailing, shopping, sightseeing, squash, surfing, Tennis, hiking, intertidal zone walking.

How to find us:

Motorway direction Utrecht/Amsterdam, then onto the A9 direction Haarlem/Alkmaar. Before you get to Alkmaar direction Bergen/Den Helder. Then onto the N 245 direction Schagen. After approx. 10 km take the exit Dirkshorn. Drive into the village and after 2 km take the first or second entrance to the Park De Horn.
By plane: airport Amsterdam. Or take the train to Schagen.
